Privacy policy
This policy covers EmbeddedEra LLC, the company behind this site. We collect as little as we can, never sell it, and tell you below exactly how long we keep it.

What we collect
Very little. Apart from the optional session recordings described below, this site sets no cookies of its own and uses no advertising cookies. You see a cookie prompt only in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, where recordings need your consent. When you use a form we receive what you type (name, email, message and the answers for your request type) and any files you attach; attachments are deleted after 90 days. A spam check on the forms may set a cookie or a local storage entry. If you subscribe to the engineering notes we keep only your email address, on our own server, after you confirm it (double opt-in), and every email has an unsubscribe link. Like any website host, ours may log requests (IP address, browser) and set a security cookie, and we count page visits without cookies and without identifying you. We count clicks on the links at the end of each engineering note and tool: which link (service, contact or book a call) and which page, with no cookies and nothing about you beyond the random browser identifier described under tool usage. If you arrived from a link, another site or a search engine, your browser keeps for up to 90 days, without a cookie, the link's tags or the referring site's name (never the full address) and the first page you landed on. That is sent to us only with a quote or contact form, together with your optional answer to "How did you hear about us?", so we know where you came from.
How we use it
To reply to you, prepare and deliver your quote or order, and improve this site. We never sell or rent your information, and share it only with the service providers that run this site and our email on our behalf (website hosting, form and email delivery, spam protection and site statistics), only as needed to do that.
How long we keep it
If you become a customer we keep your contact details, the design files and firmware you send, your quotes, orders, invoices and the test records of what we shipped you, in our order system, our mail and our own file store, never in an AI chat transcript. Customer records and orders: the life of the relationship plus 7 years, for tax and warranty reasons. Design files: the life of the product we built plus 2 years, or until you ask us in writing to delete them, whichever comes first. Quotes that never became an order: 2 years. Only the people doing your work see any of it, and nothing leaves the shop without your written request.
Free tools
Some free tools on this site ask for your name, work email, and the company and role you choose to give, so we can send you the result and follow up, or prepare a quote if you ask for one; we keep those details 2 years like any quote, with the date, your language, your connection's country and a short summary of the result. Tools that check a file you upload read it with our own software on our own server, never share it, and delete it after 30 days. Tools that read your design files in your browser do not upload them, and we never see them, unless you choose to send them for a quote; files sent for a quote are deleted after 90 days. Signing up for engineering notes and offers is always a separate, optional box; leave it unticked and you still get your result. To have anything deleted sooner, email us.
Product feedback
Feedback forms for our products collect your rating, the options you tick, what you type, and an email address only if you give one, plus the date, page language and the product and its revision. They do not collect your IP address, country, browser or any cookie. We use feedback to improve the product and to reply if you left an email, and keep it while it helps improve the product. To have yours deleted, email us.
Tool usage statistics
Some tools count how they are used so we can improve them. Tools that program a board from your browser report each step: whether connecting, checking, programming and resetting worked, the chip family and what the board reported, the file type and size range, which checks warned, and how long it took. Tools that display design files count only how many files were opened and which views were used. Our server adds your connection's approximate location and timezone, your browser family, operating system and device type, and which browser features the tool needs are available. A random identifier in your browser (local storage, no cookie, replaced yearly) tells repeat use from new use. We never collect your IP address, a board's serial number or unique chip ID, your files or their names, project names, referring addresses (only the kind: one of our notes, a search engine, or direct), or anything you type. Submitting the quote or contact form counts one event: which form, where you came from and your optional "how did you hear" answer. These statistics are kept 24 months and never shared. To opt out, untick "Share anonymous usage statistics" at the bottom of a tool page, which also erases the identifier; nothing is sent when your browser signals Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. When the site search finds nothing we count that too: the words you typed (folded to plain letters, at most 60 characters, never anything with an email address or a long number in it), under the same opt-out and Do Not Track rules, so we know what to write about next.
Session recordings
We use Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors use this site, so we can fix what confuses people. It records clicks, taps, scrolling and mouse movement on the pages you view, as replays and heatmaps. Anything you type is masked in your browser before it is sent, and the text of our forms is hidden. It also sees your approximate location, browser and device, the page you came from, and a random identifier stored in two cookies it sets. Microsoft processes this for us under the Microsoft Privacy Statement (privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement). In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland nothing is recorded unless you press Accept in the banner; Decline is remembered for 12 months. Elsewhere it runs unless you opt out: use "Don't record my visits" at the bottom of any page, untick "Share anonymous usage statistics" on a tool page, or turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. We do not use its advertising features. To have a recording of you deleted, email us with the time of your visit.
Your choices
To ask what we have on file about you, or to have it deleted, email us and we will take care of it within 30 days, unless a legal hold says otherwise.
Booking a call
When you book a call we store what you enter in the form (name, email, topic and any optional answers), the time you chose, your time zone, the page language and your country, which comes from the network and not from your IP address. We keep it for 12 months after the meeting. Because the invite is created in Google Calendar, with a Google Meet link, your booking details are shared with Google. We use Cloudflare Turnstile for spam protection.
